Now you can choose the name of the newlywed.
A woman has gone viral by saying she and her fiance plan to let their wedding guests choose their own married last name — and strangers online love it so much they’ve written songs about it.
Danielle Bonadona and Jacob Bartlebaugh are both very attached to their last names and haven’t been able to decide what they’ll be called when they tie the knot.
Last month, Bonadona revealed on TikTok that the couple were considering hyphenating their last names and that people loved the tongue-twisting name.
“People are going apeshit over the idea that we can be called Bonadona-Bartlebaughs,” she said in a follow-up video sharing the last name that sounds more like a buzzword than a legal name.
“I just don’t know if people will be able to say the king,” she noted in another video.
Unable to make the decision on their own, the insecure couple have decided to let their wedding guests vote on whether or not to come up with their names when they have their ceremony in February.
“Because the thing is, we both really love our last names,” she explained. “None of us want to give up our last name, and so yeah, we’re just going to have our guests vote on it.”
The bride-to-be explained that she wasn’t willing to give up her last name, but would be okay with adding fiancé to the end of her last name.
“I’ve been called ‘Bonadona’ all my life, so that’s the name I go by and that’s how everyone calls me ‘Bona’ or ‘Bonadona’,” she explained in a video. “And so it feels like changing my name in a really weird way, like I couldn’t imagine not officially having ‘Bonadona’ in my name, but I’d be happy to include or add his name.”
She also noted that while some people were worried about their future children, the couple could not have children.
“This is not an issue. You don’t have to worry about the little Bonadona-Bartlebaughs running around the world,” she said.
Since posting the original video, she revealed that she has loved the hyphenated “fun and silly” name and hopes her loved ones will vote for it. Her fiance is also keen on the combination – it was his idea.
But the couple aren’t the only ones who have fallen in love with the unique surname.
Strangers on the internet have expressed their appreciation for the hyphenated hyphen with a goofy viral song, cute dance and thousands of supportive comments — an animal shelter in Georgia even named a cat after them.
So whether or not the couple has decided, the internet seems to have cast their vote – it’s a great name.
Here’s to the Bonadona-Bartlebaughs.
